Perkins’ and the Soup Kitchen have a long association. We have safely parked our van in one of the Perkins car parks since 2001 and they have also generously serviced and maintained this van, when times were financially very difficult for the charity. Additionally, some of our longest standing volunteers at the soup kitchen are also employees at Perkins’.
Perkins Engines Company Ltd, has operated in Peterborough since 1932 and is the most important engineering organisation in the region. Since 1997 it has been part of Caterpillar, the US global engineering company.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Perkins’ commitment to helping local groups is well recognised in our community. The Peterborough Evening Telegraph’s ‘Pride in’ awards chose Perkins as the business that has done most for the local community after it was awarded the prize in 2007 and previously in 2005 and 2003.
In the summer of 2010 a group of 5 staff from the company responded to an article about our premier fundraising event; Sleep Rough:2010. Joining 135 other people they helped us raise the sufficient to purchase a new van.
Perkins’ have a very generous policy to ‘match fund’, monies raise by their staff, for a chosen charity. This helped raise much needed additional funds for the soup kitchen to help secure our future.
Sponsorship of the PSK Van
In December 2010, Perkins kindly offered to sponsor our newly acquired soup kitchen van for £4,000 for a 2 year period. We will proudly display their logo on the side of the van, as recognition of our long term partnership.
